The Elmwood Park Zoo is a Treasure for Parents and Children in Norristown Pennsylvania

As many of us know the Borough of Norristown faces its share of challenges. But amongst all those challenges exists a Treasure Chest full of fun activities, natural surroundings along with an educational experience that can be enjoyed almost all year round. I am talking about the Elmwood Park Zoo. I have enjoyed this quaint little zoo from when I could barely remember. I dropped my share of donations as a way to occupy some quality time with my youngsters and now spending fun filled afternoons with my granddaughter is sometimes as big of a treat for her Poppy as is for her. Up until the last ten years the zoo only survived on a little donation box just inside the gate. Even though there is an entry fee now so much has changed for the positive at the Elmwood Park Zoo with renovations, additions, moving exhibits around with a great playground where youngsters like my granddaughter can play and meet new friends.

Unlike Linvilla Orchards the Elmwood Park Zoo does not get the publicity it deserves from the news media. I guess they figure the struggling Philadelphia Zoo needs the media attention and the Elmwood Park Zoo does not. As the Philadelphia Zoo is giving away their animals and exhibits to other large zoos because they can’t afford them the media tells us, the Elmwood Park Zoo is offing more to its visitors. Go figure!

After a visit during the Easter Holiday where all the kids took part in an hourly Easter Egg Hunt the kids exchanged their eggs for coloring books, candy and other fun prizes. I have been keeping close eye on the Elmwood Park Zoo. And speaking of small children, the media may have not paid close attention to the Elmwood Park Zoo but PBS Kids Sprout did.

Now that we have established what and who the media favors I like to tell you about the next two weekends at the Elmwood Park Zoo. In recent years we have seen a decline in neighborhood Trick or Treating. Now that many of the local Chambers of Commerce has endorsed Trick or Treating with retailers and restaurants in malls and towns Halloween has taken on new traditions and a safer environment for Kids. Now the Elmwood Park Zoo has its tradition geared towards child safety and fun also. This event is called Einstein Healthcare Network’s Nightmare at Elmwood, with an extravaganza of sorts for the older kids from 6:00pm to 9:00pm October 21st and 22nd then October 28th through the 30th. And for all the younger Kids there will be Little Boo at the Zoo October 30th only from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
